The PerΨverance of Vincent Augustus…

What’s to say about him?  Some call ‘em Vince or V, but this Portsmouth, Virginia native is excited about God’s work and how he can be apart of that work.  He is 1999 Cum Laude graduate of I.C. Norcom High School, HOME OF THE MIGHTY GREYHOUNDS!!!  He then went onto Elizabeth City State University, HOME OF THE MIGHTY VIKINGS, to complete a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a concentration in Mathematics/Statistics, as a 2003 Summa Cum Laude graduate.

2003 began as a turbulent time for Vincent as he was dealt two major blows in the deaths of his father, Vincent Augustus Davis, Sr.  and grandfather, Lorenza Lonnie Davis, Sr.  Managing to ride through the wave of bad news, Vincent put his time and energy into what he knew best… education, as well as, he found something that he never had, a brotherhood.  In 2003, Vincent became a member of the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.  The bond he has formed with his line brothers has and continues to be instrumental in his life.

After graduation, Vincent moved to Washington, DC, reluctantly to do an internship at John Hopkins University – Applied Physics Laboratory.  There, he met Dr. Kumar, who inspired him to reclaim his desire of education.  By the fall of 2003, Vincent enrolled into the Ph.D. for Atmospheric Sciences at Howard University with a fire to become Dr. Davis.   Even with this desire to pursue higher education, Vincent was also discovering something else.  Washington DC… slowly but surely was growing on him and he started to realize that there was more to him than a school book.  And so, Vincent started to obtain a bit of common sense.  With the tough love of friends and fraternity brothers, Vincent was starting to come out of his shell.

With this new found freedom, Vincent was become more and more comfortable, yet fearful for he was embarking on a new creature that he felt he was not prepared for.  Because of this hesistation, Vincent turned to demons that have plagued his family, alcohol, drugs, and sex.  By the end of 2004, Vincent has lost his assistantship with the Ph.D. program, decided to walk away from the program, and he was now working a part time to make a few ends meet.  By this time, depression set in very heavy.  He felt that because of his fall in education and enjoying the DC life… that he’d let his family down.  The thoughts of his father’s death came back to mind and by the summer of 2005, Vincent wanted to end his life.  Day in and day out all he could do is cry in pain that he let so many people down; that he was not worthy to continue on.  Satan truly wanted to sift him, because he knew that Vincent was destined for greatness.  In August 2005, when Vincent thought he would try his hand at suicide, he has a dream that would change his life.  He dreamt that his dad came to him from Heaven.  He never said anything to Vincent, but he had a big beautiful smile that spoke directly to Vincent’s spirit man.  “You have so much potential… everything that I {God} invested in you; you can’t throw it away.  I love you first and the most.”  Vincent immediately woke up and was reminded of his fraternity brother, George Jerman, who gave him his line name, Perservance…  Vincent was reminded of his motto that goes along with his line name…

James 1:2-4 (NIV) – 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 Because you know that the testing of your faith develops Perseverance.  4 Let Perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

With that in mind and the tragic events unfolding in Louisiana from Hurricane Katrina; in conjunction with the powerful testimony of Dorinda Clark Cole, Vincent found a renew energy and strength in God to persevere…

Since August 2005, Vincent has made a conscience effort to make relationship with God first.  Today he is at peace with himself and knows it has been nobody but God that makes the provisions… He is a writer that enjoys to talk about the goodness of Jesus Christ and shares whenever he has an opportunity.

Since late 2005, Vincent has been writing out his thoughts.  Afterwhile, he decided that it would be great to share his thoughts with others via messages… hence, Lil’ Son Productions was born…

Lil’ Son Productions are inspirational messages that are Biblical and/or are from music, conversations, and etc.  Initially, it started as a personal journal and has blossomed into a blog comprised of a series of entries…  Lil’ Son Chronicles, Living Purpose “LP” Entries, Dollar$ & $en$e and a whole host of messages and poems.  When it is all said and done, Vincent’s hope and prayer is that what God teaches him and shows him can be shared and be a blessing to many.

Today Vincent, enjoys a wholesome career as a Statistician for the Department of Agriculture.  He continues his active membership with Kappa as a member of the Fort Washington (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, of which he is one of 17 charter members.  Vincent is now in the process of pursuing a graduate degree in Statistics/Economics.  He is not sure as to what the future holds, but he knows with God leading, it will be filled with prosperity, love, peace, and joy….

Sit back and enjoy the world of Lil’ Son Productions… and be blessed!

You are such an inspiration to all. Your testimony of deliverance will be of great comfort to someone else who is going through. I pray that God will continue to bless you and take you to higher levels in your walk with Him. Keep me in your prayers for my deliverance in times of depression as well. I am going through, but I know that God is able. As I have learned to say and I say this often from Phillipians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Be blessed my son and God speed in all the God gives you do for His glory.

  2. Hi Vincent. I just wanted to stop by and give you a shout out! Peace.
